Adding the Badgr LTI to Canvas
The process for installing Badgr at the course, sub-account or root level are similar. Most users choose to install Badgr at the sub-account or root level of their Canvas instance.
Installing Badgr at the sub-account or root level will:
- Enable Badgr in all courses across the sub-account or account, enabled by default.
- May also be configured to hide Badgr by default, so teachers can enable it when they are ready.
- Place a "My Badges" navigation menu item on Canvas profiles.
Watch a quick video and/or follow the instructions below.
To add Badgr to an account or sub-account
A Canvas administrator can easily make badges available to teachers (account-wide) in all courses at once. Instead of navigating to a single course's settings, start from the Account Settings available in the Admin menu. Badgr may be added to either Accounts or Sub-Accounts.
To enable Badgr in all courses on a Canvas Account at once
If enabled across the account, only the administrator will need to create a Badgr account. Access the Account Settings Apps tab from the Admin Menu. If you have the EduAppCenter activated, you can add Badgr to all your courses with just a few clicks!
These quick instructions will allow a Canvas administrator to add the Badgr app to all courses on an account in one step.
- Create or sign in to your account on badgr.com (EU, AU, CA) using the same email address used as your primary Canvas ID (or add this as a secondary address to an existing Badgr account).
- Select the Account -> APP Integrations in the upper-right area of your Badgr account to access your LTI credentials.
- Select the Canvas LTI button to access your consumer key and shared secret.
- In another window or tab, log in to Canvas with your administrator credentials. Go to the desired Canvas account or sub-account, choose Settings in the left-hand menu, and select the Apps tab.
- Accessing the EduAppCenter is the easiest way to install Badgr.
- You can also install Badgr using the by URL method or by pasting XML.
- Copy the values for your LTI shared secret and consumer key from Badgr into the dialog.
- Submit the form and refresh the page.
- Observe that a new Badges tab will appear on your left-side course navigation in all courses on the account.
To add Badgr to an individual course in Canvas
- Create an account or sign in on the Badgr server of your choice (US, CA, EU, AU) using the same email address used as your primary Canvas ID (or add this as a secondary address to an existing Badgr account).
- Select the Initial Icon from the menu in the upper right. Then select "App Integrations."
- Select the Canvas LTI button to access your consumer key and shared secret. Depending on which method you use to add the Badgr app, you may or may not, need to use the Config URL. Installation instructions are also presented on the Canvas LTI page.
- In another window or tab, within the Canvas course, navigate to Settings in the left-hand menu and select the Apps tab.
- Select Badgr from the list of apps, if connected with the EduAppCenter, or select "+ App" to add a new custom integration.
Copy the values for your LTI Consumer Key and Shared Secret into the dialog.
- If you are not using the EduAppCenter to install the Badgr app, select By URL, and also copy and paste the configuration URL.
- Submit the form and refresh the page.
- Observe that a new Badges tab will appear on your left-side course navigation.
